Drag Queen Cancer

I was at Barnes & Noble the other day and came across this rather hysterical and interesting book. The book, Gay Astrology: The Complete Relationship Guide for Gay Men explained the five faces of the gay cancer, among other signs. Apparently, I'm what they call a "Drag Queen Cancer."

I won't tell you if what I read rings true for me or not. That's a secret left for my loved ones to figure out.

Anyway, you can read a little about it here...

"Drag Queen Cancer

Yes, a man can get PMS.

It is the switches between sweetness and irritability that give the Drag Queen Cancer an authenticity that others lack. Since men of this sign view women with such high regard, it is not surprising that they would try to emulate them in every way.

It is not just the dress that makes this boy seem like such a girl. He treasures his inner woman and lets her out at every possible opportunity. His home is frilly and his manner feminine. Even when dressed butch, the underwear is still embarrassingly femme.

Cancer did not make up his feminine persona. He learned it in early childhood. (That explains the retro feel he exudes.) His wardrobe and pet phrases come from his mother. Even his bust, which he so endlessly fusses over, is strikingly similar in shape and size to that of his mother in old photos. When turned out in his finery, he presents to the world an idealized picture of her.

Could any mother have asked for a better tribute?"

Do You Snore?

I n t e r e s t i n g ...

Snoring is the vibration of respiratory structures and the resulting sound, due to obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping. In some cases the sound may be soft, in others loud and unpleasant. The structures are usually the uvula and soft palate. The irregular airflow is caused by a blockage and usually due to one of the following:

* Throat weakness, causing the throat to close during sleep
* Mispositioned jaw, often caused by tension in the muscles
* Fat gathering in and around the throat
* Obstruction in the nasal passageway

Snoring is known to cause sleep deprivation to both the snorer and those around him or her, as well as daytime drowsiness, irritability, lack of focus and decreased libido.

Supreme Injustice

Today, I stop my silence. I will speak out for the many children in this world who have lost their innocence -- those children who have been molested or raped and are consequently forced to live out their youth completely changed. You poor young ones. My heart is yours today.

The Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that child rapists cannot be executed. They can be tried for their crimes but cannot be killed for destroying the mind of a young person. They can face prison time, perhaps briefly, but they cannot be electrocuted or injected with poison for shocking the hell out of an innocent young heart and injecting a poor child with their wicked little desires. It's odd, isn't it? To me, it all seems unfair.

I am a stern supporter of the death penalty. It is unholy, maybe to you, but what isn't really? What is wrong with diminishing the corrupt? Is it a tad too drastic, or is peeling away the ugliness the only way to save this world?

Ann Coulter, one of the most outrageous and controversial political commentators to date, once made a logical point in honor of the death penalty. To her, the American justice system fails each time it allows a vicious criminal to continue breathing. There are violent foes roaming the streets as we speak who have no right at all to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They pay their dues by doing little time. Courts release them out into the world almost as if to say "go! be fruitful and multiply!" The newly released rapists and molesters go back into the world and find more victims to ruin. Facts show, those who commit vigorous crimes tend to do it over and over and over and over again. So why not nip it all in the bud and send them on an express train to hell?

If you savagely beat and rape a child, you deserve to die. Period.

Here’s a snippet of what one of the great (in)justices of this land had to say:

“[we] ruled against the death penalty no matter how young the child, no matter how many times the child is raped, no matter how many children the perpetrator rapes, no matter how sadistic the crime, no matter how much physical or psychological trauma is inflicted and no matter how heinous the perpetrator's criminal record may be.”

How brilliant and comforting.

Obviously, these justices have never been raped. They’ve never been abused as children. I wonder, do they even have children or grandchildren of their own? It’s a travesty when our court system rules against an innocent child emotionally scarred for life because of a perverted adult. How can you favor someone who taints our young children?

Here We Go Again

Want more proof the economy is slowly dying? Check out the latest roll of companies on the verge of collapse. You'll find that many of these are household names. It's hard to believe they are on the brink of filing for Chapter 11. I am not a business man and I definitely do not know much about finance but this is truly fascinating news. Many Americans are losing their jobs. It's scary.

Pray or say goodbye to these public companies...

American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Airlines, Wachovia, General Motors, and Ford.

Poetry Saves, 1

I was introduced to the works of Langston Hughes my sophomore year of high school. Instantly, I felt a connection.

Hughes wrote with such force and passion, stabbing the heart and knocking the head. He wrote about the struggle to survive and feel counted in a world where being different meant you were of little worth. I fell in love with Langston's rhythm, his word usage, the rhymes, and themes. He inspired truth and reason. Here, I celebrate him.

In "Mother to Son", a mother sets out to encourage her son to keep on fighting, even when it feels too hard to.

This is the first in a series of many poems to be posted to offer motivation and provoke thought. These are my survival poems and I hope that they will shake you like they do me.

So, enjoy this first one and tell me what you think.

Mother to Son

by Langston Hughes

Well, son, I'll tell you:
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
It's had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor --
Bare.
But all the time
I'se been a-climbin' on,
And reachin' landin's,
And turnin' corners,
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So boy, don't you turn back.
Don't you set down on the steps
'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.
Don't you fall now --
For I'se still goin', honey,
I'se still climbin',
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.

Mi Borikén

I am Puerto Rican
it is in my blood
in my walk
in my heart
it is me inside and out

I am Puerto Rican
it is how I think
it is in these genes that make me up
it is how I dance
and what makes me stay strong
it is why I stay alive.

Today was the Puerto Rican Day Parade
a day met by cheer, great music, and lovely weather
the sun beamed against the many lined up throughout Fifth Avenue in Manhattan
Puerto Ricans dance and laughed
all with one thing in mind:

Puerto Rico, la Isla del Encanto

Virgin No More

You ready for this?

The Virgin Megastore in Times Square will say goodbye next year.

Due to continuing rent increases, the store will close and the space will be rented out to any company willing to pay higher rent. Same goes to the Virgin store in Union Square too. That's sad because I've got friends who work there.

Our poor economy is dying.

Here is a list of a few more companies facing store closings as well...

the Home Depot, Foot Locker, Linens 'n Things, Ann Taylor, Zales, Pier 1 Imports, Dell, Rite Aid, Sprint Nextel Corp., and CompUSA.

Movie Magic

Last night, I had the most bizarre movie experience ever. I'm a big fan of Spanish language films and so I rented Don't Tempt Me (or, Sin Noticias de Dios). It was, to say the least, quite a trip. Here's what the film is about:

"A concussive brain injury could spell curtains for a boxer named Manny. But no sooner does a priest begin to spout the boxer's last rites than a couple of supernatural agents -- an angel from heaven and a waitress from hell -- are sent to vie for his soul. A unique, enjoyable film that makes comic use of languages."

Penelope Cruz stars as the waitress from hell, a role she plays with much bravado and charm. It is sexy, funky, and a tripped up film that will take you on a movie ride of your life.

If you see it, be prepared for an original film unlike any other.

Check out this scene. Here, we see Penelope Cruz preparing for a night out with the girls. Why is she dressed this way, you ask? You'll have to see the movie to find out! (The reason will surprise you.)

Have Ya Heard?

I was a little surprised when I read an article on billboard.com about Jessica Simpson's new country single. Apparently, it is breaking records and getting a lot of positive feedback.

Simpson's move to country music is a bold one. It takes guts to put yourself out there. Not every singer has the chops to pull off a country record. Surprisingly, Simpson shines. In spite of those who did not have faith in the girl -- myself included -- Country radio really seems to dig her. Congratulations to her for that.

The new single is called Come on Over, and let me tell you -- Simpson certainly delivers. She's got the upbeat twang down, the instruments are rockin', and her voice is ever so lovely. Check it out. Here's hoping the rest of the new album is as decent as this right here.

And So It Is...

Last night
I sat,
I watched,
I cried,
I laughed
and had the time of my life

The Sex and the City movie was everything I had hoped for
and much more

But you don't have to take my word for it...

The movie made a high fashioned splash at the box office this weekend
beating last weeks champ Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I cheered as Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha sashayed their super fierce asses across the movie screen

I was in movie heaven

What a night it was
I shall never forget it
It was the movie event of the decade
It was my Titanic

And oh--
the lessons learned!
I will never curse love again...

the love of friendship
the love of man
the love of life
and the grand love of the Big Apple
